MWI Animal Health Expands Global Presence and Capabilities with the Addition of Swevet, Sweden’s Leading Animal Health Wholesaler

MWI Animal Health, a leading distributor of animal health products and services and a part of AmerisourceBergen, has expanded its global presence and capabilities with the addition of Swevet, a leading animal health service wholesaler that serves veterinary customers across the Nordic region.

With the move, MWI – which is the only veterinary wholesaler to have two fully stocked distribution centers in the U.K. – expands its distribution capabilities and service offerings in Europe at a time when the demand for veterinary healthcare services continues to increase. The veterinary healthcare market in Europe is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.4% over the next five years, reaching $14 billion in 2027. Meanwhile, the global companion animal pharmaceutical market is projected to surge over the next five years, growing at a CAGR of 9.59% from 2022 to 2027.

“As more animal health companies enter new markets globally, we are focused on expanding our international capabilities to meet our partners’ evolving needs and ensure veterinary customers around the world have timely and reliable access to the products and services they need,” said Steve Shell, president of MWI Animal Health. “With the addition of Swevet, we’re able to deliver enhanced value and support to our customers as they seek to grow their business and expand into new markets.”

Swevet, Sweden’s only full-range animal health service wholesaler, supplies pharmaceuticals, consumables, pet food and equipment to veterinary clinics throughout the country. The company also supplies veterinary customers in Norway, Denmark and Finland, with consumables, pet food and equipment.

Swevet has expanded its capabilities and reach in recent years. The company opened new state-of-the-art repackaging and storage facilities in Sjöbo in 2020, which features 13,000m3 of storage space and cold chain units to support pharmaceuticals with strict temperature-sensitive requirements.
