As a follow up to our previous communication, we wanted to provide you with an update regarding the status of the United Parcel Service (UPS) contract negotiations with the Teamsters Union, with the current contract between these parties expiring July 31, 2023. These negotiations are ongoing, and the parties have reached agreement on several major issues. As we are nearing closer to the contract’s expiration, UPS and the Teamsters Union are now negotiating economic terms of a new agreement. A strike is only one of many possible outcomes, including reaching agreement on a new contract, or extending negotiations past the contract expiration date.

We understand that the uncertainty surrounding the negotiations may make you uneasy about your deliveries. It is important to know that we continue to have regular and direct executive-level discussions with UPS.

With our strategic partnership, AB and UPS are prepared to continue to serve your business through the possible outcomes. We have a commitment from UPS that our shipments will be protected, ensuring your packages will continue to move.

Many of UPS’s non-union U.S. employees have participated in training that would help them safely serve our customers if there is a labor disruption. The training is aligned with UPS’s ongoing commitment to safety and business continuity. These activities also will not take away from the ongoing efforts to finalize a new contract.

We wanted to be proactive in notifying you of a situation that may impact how your orders are delivered. You’ve likely seen news recently about UPS’s labor negotiations with the Teamsters.

UPS, who continues to serve as one of our trusted delivery partners, and its Teamsters’ union are currently in negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement. Their current contract expires on July 31, 2023. We are in constant contact with UPS and have been since these negotiations began.

What you need to know

UPS has shared the following additional context to pass along to you:

  • UPS and the Teamsters have made significant progress, and many of the union’s priority topics have already been addressed.
  • UPS is closely aligned with the Teamsters on many of the key issues. Articles in the news and social media may make it appear they are further apart than they are.
  • There are tentative agreements on all supplemental agreements and all non-economic agreements.
  • It’s likely these negotiations will draw even more media attention, especially as the July 31 deadline approaches.
  • UPS is confident that a win-win-win agreement will be reached by the August 1 expiration date.
  • UPS is confident of a positive outcome for employees, the Teamsters, UPS and customers.

We know that this uncertainty may be concerning. We’re working closing with UPS on operational plans and will keep you informed of any changes as necessary, but at this time, our business is operating as usual. We’ll continue to stay in close contact with UPS and keep you informed as the process continues.

Additionally, AmerisourceBergen has established business continuity plans to mitigate any disruptions to the supply chain. We are committed to doing all we can to minimize delivery impact should a potential strike lead to a disruption of UPS deliveries.
